Chemical Peels

Chemical peel treatments can assist in exfoliating the upper layers of the skin to support improvements in texture and tone. These treatments are performed by qualified practitioners who assess individual skin conditions and provide an approach that aims to address concerns such as uneven pigmentation, fine lines, and rough texture while maintaining overall skin health.

How Chemical Peel Works

Chemical peel consultations consider patient-centered techniques to address skin texture, tone, surface irregularities, and other concerns like congestion or discolouration. During a consultation, qualified practitioners review your skin history, Fitzpatrick skin type, lifestyle factors, and personal goals to recommend if chemical peels align with your needs. This ensures a tailored approach, with options selected based on your unique skin profile—such as Enzymatic Peels (e.g., our Refresh Enzyme Peel for gentle exfoliation), Lactic Peels for hydration support, Purifying Peels (salicylic-based) for congestion-prone skin, or De-pigmentation Peels for tone concerns (complementing options like our Anti-Ageing Peel)—always prioritising safety and suitability.

While individual experiences differ due to skin type, condition, and response, chemical peel treatments may assist with:

  • Supporting smoother-looking skin texture over time

  • Contributing to more even skin tone and reduced irregularities

  • Helping manage surface-level congestion or dullness

  • Complementing daily skin-health routines with professional care

This treatment category has been used in cosmetic practice for many years, often in series for cumulative support. Your practitioner will discuss peel selection, application process, preparation needs, expected outcomes, potential risks, and alternatives like topicals or devices. A personalised assessment ensures any plan aligns with your medical history, sensitivities, sun exposure habits, and preferences—empowering informed decisions centred on your skin journey.

Responses vary widely between individuals due to factors such as age, skin type (e.g., dry, oily, sensitive), lifestyle, and pre-existing conditions. A thorough consultation is essential to determine suitability, screen for preparation requirements (like avoiding actives weeks prior), and provide clear, realistic information before proceeding. Patient input guides every step for optimal comfort and results.

Areas Treated and Benefits

During your consultation, our qualified practitioners assess skin conditions and discuss areas where chemical peel treatments may be appropriate. These treatments focus on surface-level skin concerns across the face, with peel types matched to your profile (e.g., Refresh Enzyme Peel for sensitive areas like neck and décolletage). Suitability and expected outcomes vary between individuals, and all details are explained clearly before proceeding.

  • Full face: May assist in supporting overall skin resurfacing, tone balance, and texture refinement.

  • Cheeks: Can help with texture irregularities, pigmentation, or congestion concerns in these areas.

  • Forehead: Often considered for uneven tone, dullness, or surface roughness.

  • Around the mouth: May support smoother texture and tone in regions affected by daily skin dynamics (extendable to neck/décolletage with suitable peels).

Each area is evaluated for appropriateness—consultation mandatory.

What to Expect: Treatment Process and Schedule

Chemical peel consultations last 30-45 minutes, delivered with precision by qualified practitioners. We prioritise clear discussions on your skin goals, history, and expectations for a straightforward, patient-centered experience.

Preparation phase:

  • Avoid blood thinners, alcohol, or supplements (e.g., aspirin, fish oil) for 7 days as advised.

  • Skip retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, or sun exposure 5-7 days prior; gentle cleansing only.

  • Skip strenuous activity or heat exposure on the day before treatment.

Treatment day:

  • Complete a skin health consultation to confirm suitability and review medical history.

  • Skin cleansed and prepped; peel applied in layers if suitable (e.g., Refresh Enzyme or Anti-Ageing). Mild discomfort possible; cooling or soothing measures used for comfort—no routine numbing needed.

  • The procedure takes 20-40 minutes and includes real-time adjustments based on your feedback.

Aftercare:

  • Apply soothing agents or moisturisers for any redness, flaking, or tightness (resolves in days).

  • Avoid rubbing, sun, heat, or actives for 48-72 hours; no exercise, sauna, or makeup initially.

  • Use gentle skincare and SPF 50+ daily; hydrate well.

Schedule:

  • Effects start in 3-7 days, with peeling or glow over 1-2 weeks (e.g., fortnightly for Refresh Enzyme Peel; 4-6 weeks for Anti-Ageing Peel).

  • Series of 3-6 sessions recommended, based on response.

  • Progress reviewed at follow-ups to adjust type or frequency.

Side Effects and Safety

Chemical peels, when administered by our qualified practitioners, have a well-established safety profile. Temporary effects like redness, flaking, dryness, stinging, tightness, or irritation often occur and typically resolve within 2-14 days using soothing care and sun protection. Increased photosensitivity, peeling, or mild swelling (common) may happen but usually self-resolves; darker skin types may need extra monitoring for pigmentation shifts. Serious risks such as infection, blistering, burns, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, or scarring are minimised through sterile techniques, patch testing, skin screening, and tailored preparation—but possible with any peel, especially deeper options.

Consultations screen for contraindications like active infections, eczema, rosacea flares, pregnancy, breastfeeding, recent isotretinoin, or sensitivities. Not suitable for everyone; alternatives like gentle facials or topicals discussed openly. Individual factors matter—safety protocols ensure thorough checks, with your comfort and history at the forefront.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Chemical Peels suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes, gentler options like Enzymatic (e.g., Refresh Enzyme Peel) or Lactic Peels are often well-tolerated. Our qualified practitioners assess sensitivity, type, and conditions during consultation, noting temporary redness or flaking that fades quickly. Protocols support low irritation.

How soon can I resume normal activities?

Most return to routines after 24-48 hours, depending on peel intensity.

  • Avoid exercise, heat, sun, or lying down for 48 hours.

  • No makeup or skincare with active ingredients for 48-72 hours; driving is fine.

  • You can return to desk jobs the same day; gym after 48-72 hours.
    Always follow aftercare advice.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Yes, after full recovery periods.

  • Lasers, microneedling, or injectables post-4 weeks.

  • Avoid same-day or nearby treatments.
Other modalities sequenced personally, with practitioner’s advice.

How long do effects last?

Typically noticeable for 4-6 weeks per session; a series of Enzymatic (e.g., Refresh Enzyme), Lactic, Purifying (salicylic), or De-pigmentation Peels (e.g., Anti-Ageing) may support ongoing benefits. Varies by skin response, type selected, and habits—maintenance via follow-ups keeps support ongoing.

Is a consultation mandatory?

Yes, consultation is mandatory for this medical treatment. It covers full assessment, risks, alternatives, and suitability—no obligation to proceed.

Who performs the treatment?

Qualified practitioners trained in medical aesthetic treatments at our clinic. Strict protocols ensure precision and hygiene under oversight. Experience prioritises safety every time, with ongoing training to meet standards.

Does it require numbing?

Rarely—cooling or buffering handles applications comfortably for most. Mild warmth common; discuss preferences during consultation. Comfort is always the focus, with options available if needed.

What if I have allergies or medications?

Full screening happens in consultation for allergies, medications, or skin conditions like eczema or rosacea. Contraindicated cases prompt alternatives like milder topicals. No clearance, no treatment—safety first, with all history reviewed thoroughly.

Is it available for all ages?

For adults 18+ post-assessment, suitable for early maintenance or mature skin concerns. No upper limit if medically appropriate. Excludes pregnancy, breastfeeding, or certain disorders. Individual fit is determined upfront via consultation.

Are there situations where I can't get treatment?

Certain factors rule it out, such as the following for example:

  1. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or active skin infections.
